Arsene Wenger insists that Arsenal want Gael Clichy to stay, and have begun contract talks with the Frenchman.

The 25-year-old left back has been linked with a move to several clubs, with Goal.com exclusively revealing that he has indicated a desire to make a move away from north London with Inter leading the chase.

Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Manchester City and Roma have all been reported to be interested in landing the full-back’s services. But the Gunners boss has revealed that the club are currently talking to the defender in the hope of retaining him.

“We have started talks with Gael and want him to stay,” Wenger said, according to Sky Sports.

Clichy has only one year left on his contract with Arsenal, and – following Jens Lehmann’s exit – is the final member of the infamous ‘Invincibles’ squad remaining at the club.
