Anglican Communion News Service (London) 13 May 2011 A bishop in the Sudan diocese of Ibba has warned that the chances of students passing their exams have been "endangered" because of a lack of qualified teachers. The Rt Revd Wilson Kamani, bishop of Ibba Diocese has warned that, despite local students being some of the best in the state, a lack of mathematics, English language, physics, biology and chemistry teachers means pupils risk failing the South Sudan school certificate.

Election petition tribunal sitting in Gusau, Zamfara State yesterday struck out a motion by gubernatorial candidate of Peoples Progressive Alliance (PPA) in the state, Hassan Ibrahim Sarkin Pawa seeking to withdraw a petition he earlier filed against the election of Zamfara State governor, Abdulazeez Yari.

The PPA candidate had filed a petition challenging the governorship election in which he said the logo of PPA had not appeared and called for cancellation of the election and sought for a court order for conduct of fresh election in which the logo of his party should be included.
But in a twist of event, Sarkin Pawa filed a motion before the tribunal seeking to withdraw the petition but the PPA at the national level challenged the withdrawal through its counsel, Ajibola Oluyede who filed preliminary objection to the withdrawal and urged the tribunal to dismiss the application.
In a ruling delivered by the tribunal chairman, Justice Kashim Gumna Kaigama, he stated that S/Pawa`s motion was incompetent and that where petitioners are more than one, the application for withdrawal shall be made with the consent of all those involved. The case was adjourned to June 27, 2011 for continuation.
