According to skysports.com, the former Newcastle man is hoping to add the duo to his squad, having previously signed them during his stint at the helm at St James’ Park.

Best only joined Newcastle in February 2010 but failed to make much of an impact during his first season, and despite a hat-trick against West Ham last season, managed just six goals throughout the campaign.

Routledge, meanwhile, spent the second half of last season on loan at QPR, a deal which suggests his future may lie elsewhere next season.

Newcastle have already been active in the transfer market this summer with Alan Pardew having signed Demba Ba, Yohan Cabaye and Sylvain Marveaux, with more new signings expected before the end of the transfer window.
