Bauchi — Gunmen on Monday night killed a student of the Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic (ATAP) at the school premises, a senior lecturer in the polytechnic has said.
“The student, Abdullahi Sabo Mohammed, a diploma two student of the department of Accounting and Audit, was killed last night by people suspected to be his close associates,” the lecturer said.
“From the report we gathered, Sabo who lives off campus, came to the school last night to see his girl friend after calling her on phone. She had earlier told him she was fasting and so he should come later. On her way to where he was waiting for her, she saw four men who wore black singlets. They shot him on the chest. The girl fainted as a result of the incident, while some students around the scene informed us. Our security men called the police who came and took the corpse away,” he added.
The Registrar, Mallam Baba Galadima, said it was the first time such an act was taking place since the school was established over 20 years ago. He said, “we have no cultists, no student has ever been killed in our school.”
Galadima said the state government has intervened. “We held a meeting with leaders of the students union and the state government will fence the school premises to guarantee security”. The Police Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Barau, said the deceased was shot dead in the school premises around 11:30pm by five unidentified young men suspected to be cultists.
