Kibaha — THE technical committee of athletics section at the Inter- Secondary School games, UMISSETA, on Friday announced 45 athletes that will be recruited in the national team.
The chairperson of the athletics section, Charles Mwita said the runners were picked based on their time and performance, however, those with special qualities were also considered.
He said plans are underway to set a programme where the young athletes will be trained.
“We are in discussion with an official in the Ministry of Education to see how best we can set zonal or a national centre where they can train and study as a team. He said the move aimed at creating enough reserve of runners who can be used in various continental and international meets.
Those picked are Aines Jason, Roby Maginga, John Emmanuel and Amiri Ali (100metres), Fester Munge, Sara Steven, Marwa Gimungaye (200m), Esther Munga, Adonja Mdeta, Hafidh Halfani, Jumanne Sinda (400m), Anna Chacha, Adam Hussein, Silvestre Simon (800m).
Others are Failuna Mohamed, Anjelina Tsere, Fabian Nelson and Joseph Theophil (3000m), while those who have been selected for javelin include Catherine Maji, Loveness Stephen, Boyonic Chacha and Savas Daniel.
The high jumpers are Nyamo Chacha, Shamin Khalfan, Ramadhani Ismail and Nyakisheri Mareni and long jump list has Habiba Hussein, Anna Masubi, Samwel Charles, Omary Hassan and Yusuph Mbaraka while Daudi Sokoni has been enrolled for triple jump.
The shot put list includes Metrida Paulo, Habiba Hussein and Ezekiel Owit while discuss players are Muksin Juma and Leonard Mwaipopo. The 1500m runners are Augustino Lehho, Chacha Alphonce, Zakia Abdallah and Grace Japhet.
