The Daily Observer (Banjul) Babucarr Camara 23 June 2011 Brikama United have seen their five points lead at the top of the Gambian premier league standings sliced to only one point in a matter of just a little over two weeks and three match days following a 1-1 stalemate with serial champions Wallidan in a rescheduled fixture on Tuesday evening. The West Coast Region side went into the mid-season break with a five points cushion over Banjul rivals in the shapes of Real de Banjul and Wallidan but following a shock 3-1 loss to Interior -a result that also secured Ebrima Manneh's Interior their first win of the season -in the first game of the second round, Ensa Sambou's charges failed to hit their stride ever since and are currently at the back of two successful draws. The result means that Wallidan are still three points adrift of the leaders, Real de Banjul are just within a point of Brikama United following their last gasp 1-0 win over struggling Bakau United at the Independence Stadium on Saturday.

Prince Acheampong Sabuto fears for next season

Asante Kotoko assistant coach Prince Acheampong Sabuto admits the technical team faces a tough task building a new team for next season following mass departures.

Top performers Awal Mohammed, Yaw Frimpong, Ahmed Toure, Nathaniel Asamoah and Mohammed Fatawu are all set for moves abroad.

Sabuto was very instrumental in revamping Kotoko this season and thinks the technical team will have to work tirelessly to put up a new team.

He told Sunyani-based Dinpa FM: “It’s obvious most of the players we used this season will be leaving the club and we will have to take pragmatic measures to build up a new team for next season.”

“People must understand there is a difference between replacing the players and building a new team because we can get the best of replacements but how quick they will gel is the tougher task.”

He added: “We are still in the recruitment process and I believe we can get the best materials because we have higher ambitions for next season which am certain we can achieve.”

Asante Kotoko will leave for Tanzania for a pre-season tournament where they intend to assess most of their new recruits.
