Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Ivy Okoronkwo, told newsmen in Owerri, on Thursday, that the measure was to ensure peaceful, free and fair supplementary elections. It will be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had rescheduled the supplementary elections in Ngor Okpala, Mbaitoli, Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta council areas, as well as Orji Ward, Owerri North, where the April 26 elections were inconclusive.

Lamin Sanneh, the governor of West Coast Region, has called on Gambians, particularly those in his region, to come out en masse and vote for President Jammeh in the upcoming presidential election.

He made this call on Tuesday in an exclusive interview with the Daily Observer, at his office in Brikama, West Coast Region. According to him, election is about representation by choice of candidate and that the people of The Gambia have taken a stock of President Jammeh’s development projects and achievements for the past 16 years.

Governor Sanneh went on to state that during the past 16 years President Jammeh’s administration has boosted the economy of The Gambia and has brought development to the doorsteps of the people. He said Gambians have seen the efforts of the Gambian leader in terms of infrastructural development and poverty alleviation. He called on the people of West Coast Region to not only vote for President Jammeh in the upcoming election, but to vote with 95 percent. “This time around we want to show the whole world that President Jammeh is a type of leader Africa needs,” he stated.

Governor Sanneh recalled that when the president took over power in 1994, many people around the world were asking him how he could develop the country. He said the President’s response was that his hopes were only on God. He hinted that there are tractors in all the corners of the country to be used for agricultural purpose. “No Gambian will say that there are no equipment for farming anymore in the country,” he stressed.

In conclusion, he commended President Jammeh for bringing lot of development projects to the country.
