Former France captain Marcel Desailly is eyeing a management role in Ghana football following the completion of his multi-million pound sports facility at East Legon, a suburb of the capital, Accra.

The 42-year-old was named in the FA Search Committee’s five-man shortlist for the then vacant Black Stars coaching position in December, but withdrew from the race after complaining of undue delays in the recruitment exercise, as well as the need to concentrate on completing his two-year project.

Speaking to E TV, Desailly said he is now looking forward to a managerial role in Ghanaian football.

“I want to be a bit more part of the administration part,” he said. “You see when you give me a target… I wanted to be a soccer player; I think I have done something okay for my football career.

“I wanted to set up this project; I have finished it and next is administration, management and marketing. Probably I could have a role in Ghana football in that aspect but let’s be patient.

“We are now trying to see and find out where Marcel Desailly today can be of help for Ghana football.”

Desailly’s distinguished football career saw him win the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 with the French national team. He also played with several major European clubs, winning several titles.

When asked whether he has had discussions with the Ghana FA regards his aspirations, the two-time Champions league winner said:  “It’s not a problem. What is important is what is going to happen. We are working on it and we hope something good will come up.”

Desailly added that his main motivation is to see Ghana’s national teams progress.

“I’m not important, it’s how the Black Stars perform and also we need to concentrate on the various national teams to allow them to perform and to get the winning mentality that we are looking for,” he added.
