Juventus appear increasingly likely not to use their option to buy Alberto Aquilani on a permanent basis from Liverpool despite negotiating a reduced fee for the midfielder, Tuttomercatoweb.com report.
The Turin outfit signed Fabio Quagliarella, Alessandro Matri, Marco Motta and Simone Pepe to permanent deals this week, but never moved for the 26-year-old.
He joined on a season-long loan with an option to join from Liverpool if Juve offered an agreed fee in the region of £14 million.
Problems emerged after the Italians asked for a discount. Tuttomercatoweb.com report the Premier League side settled for £8.9m, but Juventus refused to accept the compromise fee.
New boss Antonio Conte reportedly sees him as surplus to requirements in Turin, with his 4-2-4 system and the recent arrival of Andrea Pirlo rendering Aquilani’s purchase unnecessary.
The Italian international has always hoped to stay so he could enjoy regular action, and fight for a place in the national set-up ahead of Euro 2012, but now appears set to return to England.
