Uganda: Boroboro Appeal Play-Off Expulsion

Iganga will face Bidco in the Big League play-off final this Sunday after the Fufa disciplinary committee ruled in their favour on their abandoned match against Boroboro.

The committee ruled that Boroboro lost the match for fielding Dan Obote, who had accumulated three bookings.

But the northern side yesterday filed an appeal against the decision, according to Dennis Akwar, the club secretary. According to the appeal, Obote was booked in their home games against Bishop Nankyama, Gulu and Ndejje. He served the resulting suspension in the return leg against Nankyama. He returned against Jogoo Young where he was not booked, before he picked other yellows against Maji and Iganga.

Going into the return leg against Iganga, he was one booking away from suspension, which he avoided. “I am experienced and there is no way I can put on a jersey when I know I have accumulated three yellow cards,” said Obote.

The match was abandoned after three Iganga players allegedly feigned injuries and walked off, leaving only six.

Under Fifa rules, a match can’t proceed with less than seven. Two Iganga players had earlier been dismissed, with the visitors having exhausted their substitutions.
