The Daily Mirror have reported that Liverpool are set to join Sunderland in making a bid for Ipswich Town hotshot Connor Wickham.

The Black Cats are believed to have already bid £8 million for Wickham, Ipswich’s youngest ever player, while Arsenal and Tottenham have also been strongly linked to the striker.

Sunderland are looking to fill the gap left by Darren Bent’s January departure and the loan return of Danny Welbeck to Manchester United.

The report states Dalglish is ready to match Sunderland’s £8m offer, while also contemplating a £6m bid which would involve youngster Jonjo Shelvey going on loan to Ipswich for the season.
