According to K.K. Sarpong, Kotoko is a limited liability company and not a charitable institution so they must play matches to make money to meet their expenses.
He was referring to the Sports Writers Association of Ghana’s inability to meet Kotoko’s demands for participating in the annual SWAG Cup Final.
Kumasi Asante Kotoko demanded GHS20,000 as appearance fee for the two-leg cup final.
He told Asempa Sports that the money is to meet expenses and if as journalists they cannot promote the event to raise money then it is unwise for such an institution to exist.
Dr Sarpong insisted that Kotoko will not honour a game and spend more than expected revenue so if the Sports Writers Association of Ghana thinks the demand is outrageous then he does not see the reason why they should play.
He added that it is about time the game is looked at as a business rather than a mere entertaining event.
