Fifa clears Norway-born Kwarasey for Ghana

Fifa has cleared ex-Norway U21 goalkeeper Adam Larsen Kwarasey to play for Ghana, three years after he applied to play for the country.

The world football governing body has been haggling with the Ghana FA over the papers to complete his international switch.

It appears the shot-stopper did not even need a switch as he only played for Norway in a friendly match at the U21 level.

Kwarasey, whose father hails from Navrongo in the Upper East region of Ghana, declared his intentions to represent Ghana three years ago.

But delays from the paperwork of the shot-stopper and the subsequent declaration from the Norway FA enhanced the process.

Early this week, re-elected Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi and his deputy Fred Pappoe promised to use their contacts within Fifa to fast-track the process.

It has now emerged that after careful communication from Fifa the goalkeeper can play for the Black Stars.

Kwarasey will be available for coach Goran Stevanovic to select him from Ghana’s next game against Nigeria in London in August.

He is likely to take the place of ageing Black Stars gloves man Richard Kingson who has come under intense criticisms for his poor displays in recent matches.

The Strømsgodset first choice turned down invitations to play for Norway’s under-21 side in 2008 with the hope of playing for Ghana.
