David Opoku in action for his Santa Barbara team

UC Santa Barbara men’s soccer star David Opoku has been called up to train with the Ghana-Under 23 national team.

He will get a chance to earn a spot on the squad that plays Nigeria this weekend in the All Africa Games qualifier.

The forward has been training with the team the last week and played in one contest with the team, a 3-2 victory.

Opoku was the 2010 Big West Freshman of the Year after collecting 17 points on the season with 6 goals and 5 assists.

The UCSB men kick off the 2011 season on August 20 against nearby Westmont.
