Ashley Young’s move to Manchester United looks to have moved a step closer after the Aston Villa winger underwent a medical in Manchester, according to reports.

Sky Sports News
report the midfielder’s representatives reportedly held talks with United before the 25-year-old went on holiday last week to discuss the terms of a potential £16 million move.

It now seems as though a move could be completed by the end of the week, with Young expected to sign a five year deal with the Premier League champions.

A number of fine performances for club and country throughout the season led to Young being linked to both United and rivals Liverpool, though the prospect of Champions League football saw the midfielder choose Old Trafford over Anfield.

Young’s signing will represent Sir Alex Ferguson’s second foray into the transfer market so far this summer, having already secured Blackburn Rovers defender Phil Jones.

David De Gea looks increasingly likely to make the move from Atletico Madrid to take up the challenge of succeeding Edwin Van der Sar as United’s first choice goalkeeper, with Sir Alex Ferguson looking to re-build his squad after the retirements of Gary Neville and Paul Scholes.
