Gor Mahia Edge Out Chemelil At Afraha Stadium

Gor Mahia edged out Chemelil FC 1-0 in a Kenyan Premier League match staged at the Afraha Stadium yesterday. Both teams started the encounter on a sound note and it was the losers who were impressive in opening minutes, losing out on several clear cut chances. Collins Okoth kept his cool to score the all-important goal for the visitors against the run of play on the half hour mark.

Chemelil will surely rue the chances they lost and Gor will thank their defence after excellently guarding their posts. Wycliffe Ochomo would have extended K’Ogalo’s lead in the 78th minute were it not for his strike going off the woodwork.

Smith Ouko should have scored in the dying minutes of the encounter but his effort went wide in what appeared to be his final touch of the ball in the match officiated by Amos Ichigwa from Nairobi.

Gor Mahia’s coach Zedekiah Otieno said he was happy the team won and remained optimistic they will do well in the second half of the season.

“We played well despite being out of the field for the last two weeks. We will correct a few mistakes and we look forward to lifting the cup at the end of the season,” said Otieno.

Chemelil’s coach Edward Manoa said he will be taking his boys on a much detailed training to enable them utilise the many chances that come their way.

He also blamed the referee for indecisive officiating saying: “We had many chances though we lost them to indecisive refereeing. We promise our fans that we will record impressive performance in the remaining matches of the season,” said Manoa.
