The gay population in Kenya is nowhere close to 15% as claimed in some quarters according to gay rights campaigners. Dennis Nzioka the programs officer at gay rights group Gay Kenya says the number is much lower and says the 2010 census figures may point to an even smaller number. He says the community would welcome an official survey on sexual identity due to the curiosity generated by the matter

A US cosmetic giant has appointed a local supplier as its sole distributor of beauty products in Kenya. AFAM Concept Inc said yesterday Jampur Agencies will be selling its Vitale range of hair care products in Kenya.

The company said it would use Kenya as a hub to expand to other east African countries with plans to venture into Uganda already in top gear “We believe Africa is a great market for us,” said Afam’s senior official KorKor Akoto during the launch event attended by hundreds of saloonists from around the country. It said it is targeting about 20 million women in Kenya. Akoto however asked the Kenyan parliament to enact stiffer penalties for counterfeit products.
