Swansea City face their first battle of the new season as they aim to tie down highly rated goalkeeper Dorus De Vries.

The Dutch goalkeeper’s contract is set to expire at the end of June and although the Welsh club have offered him a new deal the player has set to put pen to paper.

This delay has alerted Premier League rivals Wolves who have made contact with De Vries’ agent in attempt to lure him to the West Midlands.

“There are a lot of teams interested in Dorus and Wolves are one of them,” Arnold Oosterveer told the South Wales Echo.

De Vries set a club record of 24 clean sheets in a season during the 2009/10 campaign and was voted the club’s player of the season last term as the Swans secured promotion via the Championship play offs.

But with his contract due to expire, and other parties interested, it appears the coming week will be decisive in where the goalkeeper is plying his trade next season.

“Dorus is on holiday at the moment. He’s back next weekend,” Oosterveer continued.

“We’ve had Swansea’s final offer so Dorus will make a final decision when he gets back.”

Swansea manager Brendan Rogers will be hoping a regular starting spot will see the Dutchman sign a new contract at the Liberty Stadium but a move to the West Midlands, and a wage increase, could deal an early blow to the Swans Premier League preparations.
