WESTERN and Nyanza schools clash this weekend in the Equity Bank Junior tennis tournament in Kisumu. The event to be held at the Nyanza Club this weekend will see Victoria Academy starlets-Lindah Janet, Tabrez Kara, Ricky Omondi, Dennis Mabiria, Maria Okong’o, Teressa Anyango, Maureen Makungu and Noble Mungu among others battle it out with others schools in Nyanza and western provinces. According Victoria Academy director, Collins Agwanda, the tournament is organised by the Nyanza Lawn Tennis Association and sponsored by Equity Bank.
The tournament will feature under-18, 16, 14 , 12, 10 and 8 categories. The academy players will be using the event as a warm-up for the International Tennis Federation/Confederation of African Tennis u-12 and u-14 East Africa circuit to be held in Rwanda and Burundi. Rwanda will hold the event from July 27 to August 1 while Burundi will stage it from August 2-5. The first leg was held in Kenya in April.
