Sources at a meeting of leaders of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Abuja that was held on June 14, told the Nigerian Tribune that the opposition parties had resolved to back Tambuwal as Speaker, notwithstanding the thinking within the PDP. The meeting, which was attended by seven top members of the party, was said to have been briefed by  a close ally of the party’s presidential candidate, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), who stated that the leadership of the  CPC, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and the All Nigeria People’s Party  (ANPP) had agreed to defend Tambuwal and use opposition to him as a launch pad of an impeachment plot against the president.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has suggested Chelsea may have already made contact with Luka Modric over a potential summer transfer.

Modric expressed that he would be open to a move to Stamford Bridge this summer, but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy released a frank statement insisting the creative midfielder would not be sold.

However, Redknapp has revealed the interest in Modric from Chelsea is nothing new and has been going on since shortly after Carlo Ancelotti left the club.

“This has been going on for a while,” said Redknapp, according to the Daily Telegraph. “It has been going on for the last three or four weeks since Carlo Ancelotti lost his job. Somebody else thinks he is choosing the players, not the new manager.

“Possibly there has been an approach. You never know. With deals now they go to agents, then the player, before the club.

“There is not a player transferred that does not know a club wants him before contact between the clubs is made.”

The newspaper also states Tottenham may be set to report Chelsea for making an illegal approach for Modric, though club officials are still monitoring the situation.
