THE National Assembly/Legislative House petitions tribunal sitting at the Lagos High Court, Igbosere has adjourned till June 28, the legal battle between Cosmas Okoli of the Labour Party (LP) and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN’s) Chief Ganiu Tunji Olukolu for the House of Representatives, Amuwo-Odofin Federal constituency, Lagos seat. Justice Maurice Eneji heads the panel of judges.
Although Olukolu who was declared winner at the April 9 elections was absent, his counsel, Lere Oyedepo was present at the proceedings which he said was to exchange documents and some of the pending motions.
Okoli’s lead counsel, Chief Chukwuma Ekomaru (SAN) who said he was satisfied with the proceedings, said: “We just had a pre-trial procedure which is to find out whether there are places where the parties would agree for the purpose of facilitating the hearing. We made some concessions and the judges took decisions on some of the motions so we could continue with the trial. The ACN candidate did not show up but INEC was well represented. As straightforward as Okoli’s case is, we are confident that we would get justice.”
