The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights has launched its Third State of Human Rights Report that assesses the government on its development plan.

The report launched yesterday examines the government’s performance against national goals as opposed to international standards as was the case in the past.

It says there has been a suitable policy environment for improved service delivery and standards of living. “In the period under review, the government has focused increasing attention and resources in various initiatives aimed at enhancing growth, social welfare development and democratisation,” the report says in part.

It says increased funding of ministries concerned with delivering on development goals has helped empower more people and taken services closers to them.

It says, however, the rights of the vulnerable and marginalised groups had not been met and gave the example of rising food prices which it says does not allow them to practise their right to food.
