Freetown — The Craig Bellamy Foundation (CBF) has announced the commencement of the 2011 Talent Scouting at the Bassa Town Field, Waterloo.
The event, which coincided with celebrations marking the Day of the African Child, is the Foundation’s national scouting initiative that offers children across the country born around 2002 the opportunity to earn a place in the academy located in Tombo later this year.
However, this year’s event is special as the academy founder Craig Bellamy is part of the team of expert coaches and scouts to identify talented kids for his academy. The former Liverpool striker who is presently in Freetown will be helping the technical staff in looking out for other young talents to be enrolled in the academy.
In related development, the second edition of the Foundation’s Challenge Cup will kick-off tomorrow (Saturday) at the CBF Academy in Tombo for players under the age of 14. Already, the tournament has been tipped to showcase some of the best young sporting talents in the country.
Six of the top young teams in the country – the CBF Academy, FC Johansen, Ibrahim FC, Young Sportsmen’s Club, Area Best Makeni, and Tombo Rangers – will battle in this year’s championship.
The tournament is expected to kick-off at 9:00am with the final expected to take place at approximately 1:00pm the same day.
