West Brom have reportedly made an official approach for Getafe’s Ghanaian midfielder Derek Boateng.

The 28-year-old is also the subject of a bid from Ukrainian side Dnipro and interest from other Premier League clubs, according to reports.

According to skysports.com, Sunderland, Stoke and Aston Villa are all monitoring the central midfielder’s situation, but none have yet made an offer.

The midfielder, who has played in Greece, Israel and Germany before moving to La Liga side Getafe in 2009, was on the verge of a move to Steve McClaren’s Middlesbrough in 2002 but was refused a work permit.

That would no longer be an obstacle to a move to England, as Boateng is now a regular in the Ghana international squad.

“Derek is obviously flattered by the interest in England,” said the player’s British representative Chris Nathaniel.

“He knows the interest is strong and we are aware that at least one bid has been made for him.”

Dnipro are reportedly in pole position for Boateng, who usually plays as a defensive midfielder for Getafe, but, if rumours are to be believed, West Brom have come in with a late bid and Roy Hodgson may be able to snatch him away from the Ukrainians at the last minute.

Boateng’s Getafe side escaped relegation from La Liga on the final day of the season, and although the midfielder has recently expressed a desire to remain in Spain, a move away seems on the cards.
