Dar Es Salaam — Simba Sports Club leave for Kinshasa today ahead of their Saturday’s Confederation Cup return leg against Motema Pembe of DR Congo.Bubbling with confidence, Simba, who carry a narrow 1-0 lead to the Congolese capital, hope to accomplish the arduous mission of advancing to the last eight.
Having tested the first victory since taking the reigns at the Msimbazi Street side, head coach Moses Basena said his players were in high spirits, looking forward to defy the odds. However, Simba face a daunting task in Kinshasa as their opponents will be looking to overturn the wafer-thin deficit in front of their home fans.
Simba will miss the services of dependable defender Haruna Shamte who picked a red card during the first leg encounter. The Ugandan tactician said the travelling team would comprise 16 players who include: goalkeepers Juma Kaseja and Ally Mustapha.
Defenders: Salum Kanoni, Amir Maftah, Juma Nyoso, Kelvin Yondani and Juma Jabu.Midfielders: Amri Kiemba, Jerry Santo, Shija Mkina, Mohamed Banka, Nicholas Nyagawa and Aziz Gilla.Striker: Emmanuel Okwi, Mussa Hassan Mgosi and Ahmed Ali Shiboli.
Should Simba send Motema Pembe packing on Saturday, they will romp into the semi-final stage and be entitled to a cool Sh225 million from the Confederation of African Football.Asked to comment on the kind of game plan he would prefer, the soft-spoken coach said: “I can’t disclose it because it’s our major ammunition.”
Simba yesterday received a timely boost after defender Salum Kanoni shook off his knee injury.
