Ongwediva — BUSINESS people in the North have complained about the advertising rates charged by media houses in Namibia.
Speaking at the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) annual general meeting at Ongwediva on Monday, Banda Shilimela called on media houses to reduce their rates, especially for vacancy advertisements.
He said vacancy ads do not directly benefit businesses, but offer employment to the jobless and therefore should be charged at a lower rate.
The AGM was opened by Oshana governor Klemens Kashuupulwa and was also addressed by Oshana Police Commissioner Ndahangwapo Kashihakumwa.
The meeting deliberated on issues such as the NCCI northern branch report, including its financial report. The gathering expressed concern about the decline in exports from Oshikango to Angola as well as visas and work permits for foreign investors.
Kashuupulwa told the business people that the Government is concerned about the impact the floods had on their businesses.
He encouraged NCCI members to approach financial institutions to apply for loans to re-engineer their enterprises.
Commissioner Kashihakumwa thanked the businesspeople for their cooperation with the Police in the region and called upon them to continue doing so.
