Kampala — Kampala City Council (KCC) have signed Bunnamwaya striker Eddie Mubiru and Utoda winger Micheal Birungi in a bid to bolster their squad ahead of the new Super League season. “Both players have been handed two-year contracts. What is left is registering them with the Super League secretariat,” said KCC coach Matia Lule.
KCC came close to winning this year’s league title but were piped by URA in the home stretch and their early involvement in the transfer window that opened on Monday is no surprise. They need a stronger side to mount another challenge.
In Mubiru, KCC have landed an explosive striker, who can deliver at the top level given the necessary support. Mubiru guided St Mary’s-Kitende to last month’s Copa Coca-Cola Schools Championship in Arua with four goals and his overall performance must have impressed Lule who was there on a scouting mission. Lule is also in talks with Police for right-back Lawrence Segawa.
Elsewhere, Proline fighting competition from Express, SC Villa and URA to the sign midfielder Paddy Muhumuza from relegated Fire Masters. SC Villa have, however, secured the services of striker Herman Wasswa from Masaka LC. The league starts in September.
