‘Nation’ Chief to Head Rhodes University Media Board

Nairobi — Nation Media Group boss Linus Gitahi has been appointed chairperson of the Board of Advisers of Rhodes University’s Sol Plaatje Institute for Media Leadership.

The institute is the only university-based institution in Africa and the Third World which specifically trains managers and journalists in media leadership and management.

“Mr Gitahi will take charge of a 10-member board comprising leading media, academic and financial chiefs from across Africa, who will advise the institute on its broad business direction,” said Sol Plaatje Institute (SPI) director Francis Mdlongwa.

SPI is a pioneering institute set up in 2002 at South Africa’s Rhodes University and runs a postgraduate course in media management and leadership and a range of short-term accredited professional courses for practising media managers.

Mr Mdlongwa said the SPI felt honoured by Mr Gitahi’s acceptance to lead the board at a time of sweeping change for the media across the world because of the advent and impact of digital media platforms such as the Internet, social media and mobile phones.

“He brings an immense wealth of experience of successfully managing media and other top companies, of managing change in uncertain times,” said Mr Mdlongwa.
