Luanda — The French ambassador to Angola, Philippe Garnier, Tuesday in Luanda, spoke of the need for strategies and programmes that favour a harmonious and lasting human development.
The diplomat was speaking at a conference discussing issues related to environmental challenges in the world.
According to him, human development requires the society to take into account the challenges and programmes of education and awareness.
Philippe Garnier said the preservation of environment and sustainable use of natural resources at global level are essential challenges, particularly to the African continent that, according to him, is central in the environment crisis.
He said Africa would be the first victim of an eventual global climate disaster.
The diplomat also said that the African continent, with its 220 million hectares of forest in the Congo Basin, which makes it the world’s second tropical forest block, has key potential to respond to environmental challenges.
The conference is discussing matters related to world environmental challenges, perspectives for Africa and Angola and its attained solutions.
Attended by university students, the event is reviewing the role of the media in environmental education and awareness in France and other countries, education initiatives and projects and environmental awareness in Angola and its perspectives.
The environmental education and campaign in Angola is covering the whole 18 provinces of the country, reaching foreign nations through the embassies.
