Sebastian Larsson has hinted at a possible return to Arsenal after he was released by Birmingham City.

The Swedish international looked set to leave in January but stayed on in the ultimately unsuccessful fight to avoid the drop, though he had a hand in his side beating the Gunners to the League Cup at Wembley.

Speaking to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, Larsson said: “They Arsenal have shown some interest. If it flows it can be anything in the end. The next few days will tell.

“I know there is some kind of interest but I cannot currently say whether something can be done or not. At the moment I do not know how it is going.”

The midfielder left the club as a 22-year-old in 2007 after failing to cement a place in the first team.

However, Larsson admitted that he still has friends at the north London club, most notably Gael Clichy, which could make a return easier for the now 26-year-old.

“I’m talking to a couple of the Arsenal players still. In particular, Clichy,” he said.

“Of course I have also talked to my advisor. For every day that passes, I will get closer to a decision but it is also no stress to me. The most important thing is to get a place that is a good next step in my career. It is the goal.”

The Swede admitted, however, that his next move might take some time to be sorted, with Liverpool also linked.

“It may take a week or a few weeks before it is finished,” he continued.

“I do not have full control of the situation and would rather not go into exactly what clubs the case of the moment. But I have not learned so much about Liverpool. What I can say.”
