The Junior Wasps played the final 30 minutes of Monday’s friendly against Panama a man short following Andrew Buteera’s red card.

The striker was sent off after a dangerous tackle on Panama’s left back.

At the time, Rwanda were ahead (1-0) thanks to an own goal from Panama skipper Roberto Chen.

But with 11 minutes to play, Chen redeemed himself from the spot kick following a reckless challenge by Michelle Rusheshangoga on Aldair Paredes.

In his post match remarks, Panama coach Jorge Dely Valdes backed the junior wasps to make it past the group stage.

“I think they have a strong team that can get to the next round,” the former Panama international said.

The match was Rwanda’s final build-up to the Fifa U-17 World Cup which kicks off this Saturday in Mexico.

Drawn in Group C alongside England, Canada and Uruguay, Rwanda will open their campaign against England this Sunday.
