Estranged Eagles’ striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni was shocked to find out that Nigerian fans were yet to forget his world famous miss at the South Africa 2010 World Cup.
The Everton of England striker was booed at every touch of the ball during last weekend’s testimonial held at the Teslim Balogun stadium.
“It is normal that if you play a game and fans don’t like it they resort to booing you. I missed a chance to score at the world Cup. It’s painful. I didn’t do that intentionally. I just want to say I am sorry about it. They should forgive and forget and let us move on,” Yakubu said.
Yakubu, however, would love to return to the national team.
“Of course, if I am not ready to serve my country I won’t be here today (Saturday) to play Green-white-Green. It is my country, my home, and I am enjoying it, everyone wants to play for his country.”
