Manchester City defender Jerome Boateng has confirmed he has agreed the terms of a four-year contract with Bayern Munich.
The German international is keen to return back to his homeland after failing to settle following his move to City last summer from Hamburg and he now hopes the two clubs can reach an agreement.
“It is true that I have agreed with Bayern on a four-year deal,” he told Kicker Magazine.
“Now it is up to Manchester to make it work. At the moment they are making things a bit difficult.”
The 22-year-old has struggled to establish himself in Roberto Mancini’s starting line-up and he admits his preference to play as a centre-back is the main reason behind his desire to switch clubs.
He added: “It is about the position. Bayern want me as a central defender. That is also an advantage for the national team.
“My dream is to have a starting spot within a year, hopefully at Bayern, and then I want to win the European Championship.”
Bayern Munich captain Phillip Lahm is excited at the prospect of his international team-mate joining the German giants and hopes City will sanction Boateng’s sale.
“Things are not up to Jerome or Bayern Munich, Manchester City will have to agree in the end,” he told Bild.
“At this point in time I do not know what might happen.
“I am unable to make a prediction on this, we simply have to wait and see.”
