Cabinet minister William ole Ntimama has appealed to Parliament to approve the nomination of Keriako Tobiko as the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The Heritage minister, who has broken ranks with some ODM members over his decision, has described those raising issues of integrity against Tobiko as malicious, jealous and ignorant of the facts. “Some of the issues amount to personal vendetta. It is malice, jealousy and a demonstration of ignorance of facts. Those making allegations against Tobiko have not produced any proof. Give Tobiko a chance,” said Ntimama yesterday.
ODM chief whip Jakoyo Midiwo has said he will lead those opposing the nomination of Tobiko when Parliament will be asked to vote for him, Willy Mutunga and Nancy Baraza, who have been nominated for the positions of Chief Justice and Deputy Chief Justice respectively.
But yesterday, Ntimama said the three nominations should either be approved or rejected. “This was a package approved by the two principals. The Committee of Parliament has also approved all the three. Why then would anyone want to pass two and drop Tobiko’s name?” he asked.
“Caroli Omondi, a senior official in the Office of the Prime Minister sat in the interview panel on behalf of the PM and gave Tobiko the highest marks, how then do a few individuals from the party turn around to oppose Tobiko’s nomination. I will personally lobby for Tobiko’s approval,” said Ntimama.
