Nairobi — Windsor’s Humphrey Maina fired an amazing 44 stableford points to steer his team to a superb victory during the Dasani Golf Gala tournament at the tight Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club at the weekend.

The handicap 16 golfer fired three over par 23 in the front nine and five over 21 while Macharia Muotia, currently playing off handicap 12, returned 39. Mike Macharia and Mike Njau fired 29 and 36 for the team’s 119 points.

“My golf has been a little bit erratic but today it all came out and I was able to play very well,” said Maina.

“This is definitely one of my best rounds in recent times and I could not have asked for it to come at a better time.

“The Dasani Golf Gala is the country’s top golf event and now that our team has qualified for the Grand Finale, I trust my swing will stay put!”

High scoring day

The runner-up team comprised Reguindin Henry, Dinesh Shah, Charles Slater and Jeff Litzke.

Litzke was the team’s anchor with 44 points, Henry contributed 37 and Slater added 33 for a team total of 114. Shah was the team’s weakest link with a commendable 33 points.

On a rather high scoring day, the individual winner was Eric Kimani with 42 points while Tasneem Padamshi was second on 41.

Meer Samji was the guest winner on 41 points, Joseph Waithaka (40) was second and Golf Park’s Joseph Bett finished on 37.

Coca-Cola Central East and West Africa Business Unit president, Nathan Kalumbu, was the staff winner with 32 points, beating Peter Njonjo, the General Manager East Africa, by one point.

The Dasani series now heads to Nyali Golf and Country Club, Mombasa, where members from the Coast Bottlers territory will compete for two qualification slots in the Grand Finale that will be held on August 27 at Karen Country Club.

The ultimate winning team will win an expenses-paid golf trip to the Tour Championship at the East Lake Golf Course in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. The winners will be VIP guests of the Coca-Cola Company.

In his best form

At Machakos, former club captain Leonard Munyao Kamba carded 18 and 21 for 39 points to claim the top prize during the fourth edition of the Precision Air Golf tournament.

The handicap 11 Kamba won by a point from S.P. Bett (19, 19) and retired army general Joe Musomba (22, 16) while club chairman Jackson Ndunda (37) took fourth prize.

At Kiambu golf Club, veteran golfer David Ndirangu was in his best form, firing 43 stableford points to claim the Ting’ang’a Catholic Church Golf tournament sponsored by Arm Insurance Agencies. He beat Mark Nduati by one point.
