He stated that the tree seedlings would be planted by students, the community, government institutions and others

Kerkebet — The Administrator of Kerkebet sub-zone, Mr. Humed Ela Ali Idris, said that the newly available service-rendering institutions are providing commendable service in meeting public demands.

He told ERINA that prior to independence, the inhabitants used to lead nomadic pattern of living in dispersed places. At present, however, various social services, including education, health and potable water supply have been introduced, which in turn enabled the inhabitants to lead stable and settled lifestyle.

Noting that the health stations of Himbol-Kechech and Lokayeb, as well as Amelait health center are providing better service, Mr. Humed stated that a new clinic has been built in Hamashdiba administrative area.

He further explained that in line with efforts to relieve the inhabitants from water-borne diseases, 5 solar energy-generated water facility, 2 hand-pump wells and 6 wells that operate by generators have been put in place that are providing reliable potable water supply.

Highlighting the activities being carried out to boost agricultural production along the river banks of Himbol, Barka and Homib, Mr. Humed pointed out that there are 11 educational institutions ranging from kindergarten to secondary level, in addition to 2 schools that provide educational opportunity to youths who failed to attend class at the right age.

Moreover, he said that about 30,000 people have been regrouped in 9 administrative areas of the sub-zone, and that the construction of a bridge in Kerkebet and the expansion of market center are making due contribution in improving the lifestyle of the people.
