Bolton chairman Phil Gartside has given Owen Coyle his backing ahead of the summer, insisting there are few managers better at finding young talent.

The Trotters look set for another summer of dealing with loans in the transfer window, but Coyle has used the market well during his time at the Reebok Stadium to sign England’s best young players.

The Scot brought in Jack Wilshere on a six-month loan spell in early 2010, whilst Daniel Sturridge produced several stellar displays in the second half of this season, scoring eight goals in 13 matches.

Following the success of those two loans, Gartside hopes Coyle will continue to use the system to his advantage.

Speaking to Bolton News, Gartside said: “If Owen spots another young star player somewhere, whether to loan or buy, what he did with Jack Wilshere and Daniel is going to attract someone.

“I don’t want to sit and preach but I know that if Owen sits in front of a player right now, young or old, and wants him, he’ll get him.

“No-one will turn a chance down to come and work with him because his character is just that infectious.

“Everywhere he’s been, at Burnley or St Johnstone, he’s been prudent in getting players in, given them confidence and made them better. You can see that in the players who were in the team who might have been struggling a bit before he came. He’s changed the way they’ve played.

“You can’t give a player more skill or ability, all you can do is mould it.

“That’s why Owen will go higher in the game, because of that ability to get more out of players.”
