Arsenal and Tottenham are set to slug it out in the chase to sign Blackburn Rovers defender Christopher Samba, according to the Daily Mirror.

Arsene Wenger has already had an £8 million bid rejected by Blackburn for their 27-year-old central defender in January but is set to return with an improved bid in an attempt to persuade Samba to join the Gunners.

However, the report claims Spurs will battle it out with Arsenal to sign the French-born defender with Redknapp reportedly interested in two new central defenders this summer.

The article claims Redknapp is happy to meet Blackburn’s asking price and the defender has said he will listen to offers from elsewhere to further his career.

Samba signed a new contract at Ewood Park last season but Blackburn are willing to sell if their valuation is met as they fund significant investment in the playing squad.

Samba’s defensive colleague from last season, Phil Jones, has finalised his move to Manchester United this week for an initial £16.5m in a deal which could eventually be worth above £20m.
