West Brom are pondering whether to give Cameroon international Somen Tchoyi a chance at playing in a striking position.

Tchoyi spent the majority of the season playing on the wing and contributed three goals. However, in the final game of the season when the Baggies were 3-0 down at Newcastle, they moved the 28-year-old into a more central role where he scored a magnificent hat-trick to rescue a point for his side.

Baggies assistant boss Michael Appleton revealed the hat-trick was no fluke, and Tchoyi has in fact played there before.

“He has looked a threat when we have seen him do that on international duty, so it has been on our minds a little bit and we might have found a tool we can use for next season,” Appleton told Express and Star.

“Newcastle was incredible and it was great for him. In the first half he threatened a little bit in wide areas but, as soon as we put him into central areas, he caused havoc and could have had another couple of goals.”

Albion are believed to be looking for a strike partner for Peter Odemwingie, with PSV Eindhoven forward Ola Toivonen reportedly a target of Roy Hodgson. However the Dutch side’s £10 million valuation of the Swede may have deterred the former Liverpool boss, who could opt to use Tchoyi alongside the Nigerian.
