Amateur golfers from across the country will stage a return to the Le Meridien Heineken Open in Uyo next Saturday. The second stage of the tournament was originally scheduled for the Ibom Resort Golf Club, Uyo on April 22.

But the players were about to be planning their travels the tournament was pushed forward for several weeks as a result of the national elections.

The first stage of the amateur open was staged in March. On that occasion, Paul Abiyou from Port Harcourt Golf Club, ran away with the overall prize after holding out for a four- stroke victory with a 145 nett over 36- hole.

A lot will be played for when the tournament resumes at the country’s favourite holiday golf destination where the organisers will be giving away many eye popping prizes, including special holiday packages in Europe for the players who excel.

The tournament is packaged by American sports management group, IMG Sports, the managers of the facilities at Ibom.

The Meridien Open is four leg series which began on March 5 with 120 players drawn from different golf clubs across the country.

Heineken, the premium larger beer, is associating with the tournament as a way of promoting golf in the country and enhance its brand presence.
