Namibia: U/20s Win Again in Germany

Windhoek — Namibia’s Unde-20 football team won their 2nd match during their German safari when the youngsters defeated Armenia Bielefeld 3-1 last week Thursday.

Team manager Roger Kambatuku said the remarkable progress by the Namibian youth is a culmination of the boys’ commitment and discipline.

Skipper Neville Tjiueza, who plays his club football for Tura Magic, scored the opening goal for the visitors while the Ramblers pair of Randall Goagoseb and Benson Shilongo netted a goal apiece.

The focus shifted to the International Youth Tournament in which the Namibians competed last weekend.

The tournament is played in Theesen, a small town close to Bielefeld and got underway on Saturday and concludes today.

The visiting Namibian team got their campaign off to a good start with a 4-2 victory over traditional rivals Westphalia Under-17s. Twin stikers Benson Shilongo and Roger Katjiteo got a brace each.

However, the Namibians stumbled in their 2nd match on tour when they went down 2-1 against an invitation team comprising of Bundesliga Youth footballers.

Edmund Kambanda, who plays his club football for Benfica in Tsumeb, scored Namibia’s solitary goal.

The Namibian delegation is headed by Brave Warriors assistant coach Norii Kaanjuka as head de mission while Ramblers young mentor Christy Khuruseb has been entrusted with the task of taking the youngsters through the ropes.
