David Ngobua 10 June 2011 Contrary to belief in some quarters that the committee inaugurated yesterday is Nigerian Court of Arbitration in Sports, NCAS, and should be allowed to handle the lingering crisis between the Nigeria Football Federation and the new Nigeria Football Association, NFA, the President of Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC, Engineer Sani Ndanusa who inaugurated the body said it lacks authority to entertain the matter. The committee to establish what is going to be Nigerian version of the International Court of Arbitration for Sports was inaugurated yesterday in Lagos, and is to be chaired by former international and legal luminary, Adokiye Amiesimaka with nine other lawyers as members. The essence is to help in resolving sports related issues and also adjudicate in legal matters arising from conflicts between interested members of various sports federations

Several Ghanaian players joined over 14,000 fans to pay tribute to former Nigeria captain Nwankwo Kanu during a lively testimonial game in Lagos.

Stephen Appiah, Micahel Essien, Sulley Muntari, Sammy Kuffuor and Tony Baffoe all turned up on Saturday during the game in Lagos.

While all were in action, Essien’s ankle knock prevented him from playing but he turned up to pay tribute to one of Africa’s greatest talents.

The Portsmouth forward, a two-time African Player of the Year, was retiring from international football after 16 years.

Fans defied early rain to attend the star-studded game in which the Super Eagles beat a Rest of the World XI 3-1.

Samuel Eto’o, Emmanuel Adebayor, Sulley Muntari, Rigobert Song and Emmanuel Eboue all appeared.

The 34-year-old Kanu played for both sides and scored for the Super Eagles side that included Danny Shittu, Kalu Uche and Yakubu Ayegbeni.

Fittingly, it was Kanu who scored the opening goal of the game as he calmly beat Peterside Idah, the former South Africa-based goalkeeper.

Essien travelled to France immediately after the match for Didier Drogba’s wedding in Monaco.
