Alex McLeish has been tipped to make a sensational switch from former club Birmingham City to Aston Villa with bet365. He is the favourite to become a Villan @ 10/11 (2.10).
The online bookmaker suspended betting on McLeish to join the Blues’ midlands rivals on Friday before McLeish quit Birmingham via email. Following Roberto Martinez’s snub the Scotsman was as long as 10/1 (11.0) to switch sides in the Midlands on Friday.
Steve Freeth, bet365 spokesperson, said last week: “McLeish backers have been filling their boots since Friday lunchtime and we’ll do our dough big time if he crosses to the claret and blue side of the city.”
McLeish stunned St Andrew’s by quitting via email on Sunday and bet 365 have since reopened the market. You can back the League Cup winner @ 11/10 (2.10), followed by Mark Hughes (10/3, 4.33), David Moyes (11/2, 5.50) and long-shot Frank Rijkaard (12/1, 13.0).
After successful spells in charge of Rangers and the Scottish national team McLeish took over at St Andrew’s in November 2007. He was in charge during two relegations, one promotion and a shock upset of Arsenal in this year’s Carling Cup final.

The manner of his departure has stunned his old club, who are understood to be considering legal action. News that McLeish is being linked with a move to Villa Park has prompted disbelief in the Midlands where Birmingham City and Aston Villa enjoy an infamous rivalry.
The odds on McLeish becoming a Villan in more ways than one continue to shorten as his mooted new club have yet to comment on the speculation.
