Bosaso — After massive security crackdown in Bosaso port town in Somalia’s semi-autonomous state of Puntland, more than hundred people were arrested, reports said Monday.
The operations came after unknown men armed with pistols on Sunday night gunned down a retired Puntland police officer at the center of Bosaso, Puntland’s commercial hub about 1500 kilometers north of Mogadishu.
Local residents said a lot of Puntland security forces flanked by battles wagons could be seen crisscrossing the neighborhoods of the town.
Security officials said the arrested ones are accused of destabilizing the town, but noted they release anyone acquitted charges against him.
The officials vowed they will continue the operations until they assure peace and tranquility in the region.
Security has been precarious in the last few days in parts of Puntland territories asa number of officials, well-known elders and peace activists were previously killed.
