Serge Aurier could be on his way to the Premier League with both Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers thought to be interested in the Lens defender.

The 18-year-old has a contract that runs until 2015, but is likely to leave the French club after they were relegated France’s Ligue 1 and Aurier has admitted he has been in contact with English clubs.

“It is true, contacts exist,” he told French newspaper La Voix.

“The English league is a place where I would improve in the future.

“It’s the league that best suits my qualities. Now, nothing says it will be next season and I am preparing to play in Ligue 2 with Lens.

“But we must see what is best for me. I’m meeting the president and if he is satisfied, from an economic perspective, I would go.

“I will not be forcing my exit, if I have to stay at Lens, it will also be very good for my progress.

“The main thing is that I know where I will be playing next season, and whether to stay or to go. I want to be fixed up before the resumption of training on June 22.”

The French defender is valued at around €4 million(£3.5m) with Steve Keen looking to replace Phil Jones, who is close to a switch to Manchester United.
