Man ‘massacred ‘by machine in industrial accident

The Director of the International Standards Department of the ILO, Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, has commended Ghana for the serious efforts the country is making to meet international standards of labour. She made the commendation at an impressive ceremony at the ILO headquarters in Geneva last Tuesday, during which certificates were presented to Ghana for the ratification of three ILO conventions.

A worker at the Delta Agro Limited, a Lebanese Company at the Tema Industrial Area has been grinded by a machine he was working on. The accident occurred in the early hours of Friday, June 10.

According to an eye witness, only named Ntow, who also works at the company, he was in one of their offices when he heard shouts at their machine production room and when he went to check, he saw the worker, (name withheld) lying on the floor with his intestines gushing out without one of his hands.

Ntow said the man’s hand was first amputated by the machine after which he which he was pulled into it and later spewed him out.

He said the hand was still stuck in the machine while medical personnel were yet to get there.

He said it was only one policeman who came to the premises but has since left.
