General Chief of Staff Regrets Soldiers’ Death in Helicopter Crash

10 June 2011 Luanda — Angola Olympic Committee (COA) handed over awards to winners of the first edition of the Olimpicafrica marathon, organised in February 2010, in the country's capital city. The athletes are students Bruno Gabriel, aged 13, and Zélia Arriaga (14), who benefited from didactic materials, equipment for training, balls, satchels, medals, besides a diploma for each, in a ceremony led by Sara Tavares, one of the members of COA. The marathon counted on the participation of 20 students from various schools of Luanda and was based on general knowledge and athletics

Luanda — The General Chief of Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) sent on Thursday a condolence message by the death of the five members of the crew of the Angolan Air Force (FAN) MI-17 helicopter that crashed on Wednesday near Saurimo city, north-eastern Lunda Sul province.

According to a document released to Angop on Friday, the tragic death of the five members of the crew is great loss for FAA and FAN in particular.

“In this time of grief, sadness and mourning, on behalf of all general officers, admirals, senior officers, captains, junior officers, sergeants, soldiers, sailors, civil employees of FAA and in behalf of myself I pay homage to the late militaries and present my heart felt sympathy to their families and command of the Angolan National Air Force”, reads the document.
