About 500 people from the Central River Region (CRR) Red Cross branch, Fire Service officers and students of Bansang Upper Basic School recently embarked on a massive cleaning exercise in Bansang, CRR south.

Speaking to this reporter shortly after the exercise, the regional officer of the CRR Red Cross branch, Pa Musa Kijera, underscored the importance of cleanliness, saying a clean nation is always a healthy nation. According to him, no nation can develop without good health. “Therefore it is of paramount importance for any developing nation to have a clean environment,” he added.

He then commended the participants for turning out in their numbers and pointed out that the exercise is in complement to President Jammeh’s ‘Operation clean the nation’ initiative.

For his part, the alkalo of Bansang, Alhaji Kebba Kora, thanked the volunteers for coming up with such an initiative and called on others to emulate them. He recalled that that was not the first time Red Cross had organised such.

He said health is among the top priorities of the president of the Republic, and that environmental cleanliness would contribute to the reduction of malaria in the town.
