After any profitable period the markets have a nasty habit of making an enemy of you. They can turn on you quicker than a Lionel Messi dribble leaving you standing and out of pocket.

Most punters will be familiar with this, you go through a period of rich profit and fortune where everything seems to land for you and then suddenly the opposite occurs. All of a sudden nothing goes your way, easy chances get spurned, penalties are missed, the team that you backed play like a pub outfit.

The most important thing is not to panic. Stick rigidly to the same analysis and pattern that you employed when you were making money and eventually things will turn again in your favour. A lot of people panic and start doing bets they would not normally do, they lose their composure and can end up losing their silk shirt too.

Fortunately, the markets revenge won’t last too long. June has been tough but it is early and I will turn it around.

    JD on Summer Transfers

The silly season has started in the transfer market especially in England where the lack of sun is going to the head. When news emerged that Blackburn Rovers were asking for £25 million from Manchester United for Phil Jones it could have been anticipated that Rovers were flogging the whole club!

Granted, Jones is a promising but very raw defender who could one day become world class but £25m is far too excessive. Clubs under pressure to adhere to new rules regarding the number of home grown players are being forced to pay exorbitant fees for English players.

Jordan Henderson’s transfer to Liverpool is another prime example, his transfer fee was daylight robbery and there is no way he is worth anything in the region of £20m. The new homegrown rules are unfair as they are a clear restriction of trade and I would be surprised if no one challenges them. You read it here first.

    JD on Arsenal departures

Some of Arsenal’s foreign legion may not be around too long and Arsene Wenger will be forced to splash the cash to replace some players that are looking to leave. Some bookmakers have opened a book on who will be the first to leave.

Liverpool target Gael Clichy heads the market at 5/4 to be the first out the door. Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri are around 3/1 to head for new pastures first. Manchester United have a strong interest in Nasri and Barcelona is still the most likely destination for Fabregas.

It’s not a surprise these players are getting itchy feet as any player worth his salt will want to win things in his career and Arsenal have been found wanting in the trophy department in recent years.

It could leave Mr Wenger with a huge headache during the summer in terms of finding replacements and rebuilding his team. Don’t put the college fund on Arsenal winning anything next season.

    JD on Euro U-21 Action

The European Under-21 Championship kicks off this weekend and it will attract a lot of interest amongst fans and punters as we get to see some of the best young players in Europe. Spain are favourites at around 2.65 followed by England at 5.0.

If you fancy a real upset, Iceland have surprised many with their recent progress at this level and they are priced at around 11.0. Looking at the Spanish squad you’ll find some familiar names like Juan Mata and Diego Capel. They are 2.05 with Unibet to beat England in their opening match and it is certainly a bet that will appeal to many.

    And finally…
