Paul Lambert says he only wants to sign players who are motivated to fight tooth and nail for the club as he looks to build for Norwich City’s return to the Premier League.
The Canaries manager has issued a warning to his transfer targets that he will not accept anyone looking to rest on their laurels.
Speaking to the Eastern Daily Press, the Scottish coach said: “I don’t want people coming here thinking it is little old Norwich and it is a lovely place to live, great area – that is not what I am looking for.
“You want people here who want to achieve something.”
Lambert has already secured two of his planned seven summer signings, with strikers James Vaughan and Steve Morison having arrived from Everton and Milwall so far, and he made it clear that he wants driven players regardless of experience.
“Players that are hungry don’t need to be 21 or 22. You can get a lad of 30 who is hungry, a lad at 31 who is hungry, and who wants to do well,” Lambert explained.
“If I think it is right then I will look at them – if you get experienced lads who want to keep doing well.”
The former Livingston, Wycombe and Colchester manager has been a revelation since taking his post at Carrow Road, guiding Norwich to consecutive promotions from League One, and has yet to lose two games in a row.
The 41-year-old has impressed upon his players how tough life in the Premier League will be but is confident they will rise to the challenge.
“I think they know the magnitude of it, they know what I expect and I have no worries about any of them. This is too big for us not to be ready.
“It is the best league in the world that you are going to play in, you are up against the best players and if you come back and you are not ready for that then there is only one person to blame.
“It ain’t going to get any bigger than this – we are right in it now, that is the bottom line, there is no room for error.”
Norwich are rumoured to be in the hunt for Leeds midfielder Bradley Johnson among others as they prepare to compete in the Premier League for the first time in six years.
